NewsCraft LGN Imaging Paper

Product Overview

LGN, a coated vellum paper, is heat- and pressure- treated to remain dimensionally stable in a laser printer, providing excellent results from all types of output, including half-tones and color separations. LGN has excellent toner adhesion for full and complete coverage. Use of LGN does not require special software or plate-making equipment. Use LGN as you would any other type of paper, by simply placing it in the paper tray or manual feed of a laser printer.

When using printed LGN paper instead of film for plate-making, place the paper emulsion (toner) side down onto the plate. Exposure time for subtractive plates should be reduced by approximately 30-45 percent when using LGN paper instead of film.

For the screen print process, use an inversion process of the image through your computer prior to printing the image on LGN. This provides a negative image, that when placed emulsion (toner) side down on the screen creates the desired positive image. Continue the production process as usual with exposure and washing of the screen.

NewsCraft LGN Product Information

General Description

NewsCraft LGN is a modified vellum material that allows laser printers to create output, positive or negative, to go direct to plate or screen in the print process, without using film.

Specific Properties

NewsCraft LGN differs from other vellums on the market in these specific qualities:
  • Dimensional stability - it won't stretch, shrink, or curl, maintaining registration through the heat of the laser print.

  • Enhanced toner adhesion - special coating increases toner adhesion so that whatever toner does come out of the printer sticks without flaking off. You have to scrape it off with a paper clip to remove the toner from the paper.

  • A fraction of the cost of traditional film positives and negatives. An 8.5” x 11” film negative can be $7 - $9, while a single sheet of 8.5” x 11” NewsCraft LGN is as little as 15¢.

  • Heavier weight paper - it is about a 20 pound paper, versus most vellums which are about 16 pounds. It's more durable and reduces the chance of paper jams.

  • Cleaner, whiter, surface - doesn't have the typical yellowish cast most vellums do, thus it archives (stores) well without coloring.

  • Image - will hold print as small as about 6-point without burning through.
