Laser PrinterUse a laser printer (toner based output) of
600 dpi or higher. Some copiers offer excellent output for this process as
well. Ink jet printer output is not opaque enough for this process.
If adjustable, set toner output on laser printer to maximum density (darkest
setting).
Ensure that printer is cleaned on a regular basis to prevent toner build-up
inside printer which can reduce output. Follow manufacturer's suggested routine
for cleaning maintenance. Cleaning may be necessary as often as bi-weekly.
When using an ink jet printer, produce the output on standard laser paper and
reproduce the image onto NewsCraft LGN Imaging Paper via a standard copier.
Registration NewsCraft LGN Imaging Paper should not be exposed to
extreme changes in temperature or moisture. Do not leave open packages near an
open window or where it may gather moisture.
If you are in a humid environment, NewsCraft LGN Imaging Paper should be kept
in an airtight container with a packet of desiccant for moisture control.
In very humid conditions, tacking an image printed on NewsCraft LGN Imaging
Paper on the wall between screen exposures may allow the LGN to gather moisture
and affect registration. Consider sealed plastic bags for storage or simply
reprint the file as needed.
Toner Output Set toner density to darkest setting.
Clean laser printer frequently, especially when doing dark output on regular
basis.
Using a fixative spray (suggested Krylon Clear Acrylic, #1311) on finished
output on NewsCraft LGN Imaging Paper. Spray a light coating of clear acrylic /
fixative on the finished output. Let dry. There will be a noticeable darkening
of the output that will sufficiently block exposure. This will also keep toner
from sticking to emulsion.
Place finished output on NewsCraft LGN Imaging Paper in a T-shirt dryer (or
conventional oven). Suggested setting 250 degrees for a maximum of 45 seconds.
The heat melts the toner to a more opaque finish. [Please note - LGN's maximum
heat resistance is 350 degrees for 15 seconds.]
Exposure Place toner side of output directly against the emulsion
on the screen to be exposed.
If no image is translated to the screen after exposure (emulsion washes out
after exposure), increase exposure time. We suggest you do a time exposure text
to determine the most effective exposure time, or begin exposure by adding 20%
to time when exposing screen with standard film image.
If the screen printed image has rough edges while all other parts of the image
are correct, ensure that the toner side is touching the emulsion on the screen.
This decreases light reflection / refraction around image lines.
